Oh yeah, there’s alot more to come.
a contemptuous term for a black or dark-skinned person.
ORIGIN late 17th cent. (as an adjective): from earlier neger, from French nègre, from Spanish negro ‘black’ (see Negro) .
usage: The word nigger was used as an adjective denoting a black person as early as the 17th century and has long had strong offensive connotations. Today it remains one of the most racially offensive words in the language. Also referred to as ‘the n-word,’ nigger is sometimes used by black people in reference to other black people in a jocular or disparaging manner, or some variant in between (in somewhat the same way that queer has been adopted by some gay and lesbian people as a term of self-reference, acceptable only when used by those within the community).
This word is used so casually now. It is still an ugly word no matter what people try to do hide the scars of it’s passed. Never forget the origin or history will repeat itself.
Based on events that happened today:
1:15pm, while riding the Metro Orange Line subway… This man decided to call me a N**** after a brief exchange about an empty seat on the train. he was trying to act tough in front of his girlfriend. He was not black and it did not matter what his race was…. His actions were not accepted. It did not take me 45 seconds to have this clown on the ground and choking the fucking life outta his ass. While his girlfriend was on my back trying to pull me off. After I let him go, he decided to call me a N**** three more times and tried to reach inside his bag for something. Needless to say… he failed in his attempt. After getting his ass whipped, he borrows a phone from a passenger and calls LAPD and Sheriff’s Department.
The authorities told the train operator to stop in her tracks and wait for the authorities to arrive. This causes the train stay in one spot for 45 minutes. No one was happy. This young sister told me, “I should have turned away and let him get away with calling me the word. Since … we used it on a daily basis!” I countered, “it’s not in my vocabulary, so shut up and read a book or two!”
Several other people said, “I did the right thing”.
But I was angry because I caused this delay. Others on the train bickered with each other and felt that word is wrong and others disagreed.
After the police arrived, we find out the coward and his girl snuck off the train. I talked to the officers and was told to have a good day. So much for that….
